Editor's Viewpoint: Our calendar girls

Great credit is due to the wives and girlfriends of Ballykinler-based troops on a tour of duty in Afghanistan. They have produced a 1940s style "Battalion Belles" calendar, with proceeds to be used to provide support for bereaved families and help for wounded troops.

Christmas is always a difficult time for those whose loved ones are overseas. It is particularly challenging for the wives and girlfriends of soldiers facing the dangers in Afghanistan.

The "Battalion Belles" calendar deserves to sell well, not only because it is for a good cause, but also as a symbol of the initiative of the women left behind, but whose hearts are with their loved ones.
