Northern Ireland's reputation was again dragged through the mud by the rioting around a contentious Twelfth parade.
But the violence was perpetrated by a small and unrepresentative part of the population. Instead, we should note more positive events taking place in coming weeks.
The Foyle Cup in Londonderry, the Milk Cup in the North West and the competition in memory of George Best in east Belfast have brought young footballers from all parts of Ireland and abroad to the province.
The forthcoming west Belfast festival has a huge entertainment programme. It is these events which show the true face of our society.
