Editor's Viewpoint: Past skill sew now

One can only marvel at the skill with a needle and thread shown by the women - and a young man - in the main feature in this newspaper today. Compared to previous generations, this is a throwaway age. We no longer make do and mend with our clothes, feeling it is easier and cheaper to simply replace.

But as well as making gorgeous and unique garments, these talented sewers also customise existing clothes to create a brand new look. Sewing is making a comeback, even among young people who find the traditional skill can bring its own rewards, both financial and simply giving feelings of achievement and pride.
