Editor's Viewpoint: Pitch in for Emma

Emma Rice is a very special young woman. She almost died trying to rescue her dad, Noel Spence, and brothers, Nevin and Graham, who were overcome by toxic slurry fumes on their farm, but, tragically all three died.

She was just out of hospital when she spoke movingly about the men at the funerals. And now she is proving an inspiration to her local rugby club, Ballynahinch, where Nevin played. She urged them to up their game in memory of her brother and they have responded with two wins.

But now she needs help. Local people have rallied around to keep the farm going since the tragedy, but experts are now needed to help out with calving beginning in the New Year. No doubt the generosity of Ulster folk will again come to the fore and answer her plea. No one more deserves a helping hand or two.
