Next week Rachel Dean will graduate from Queen's University. It will be a proud moment tinged with sadness that her beloved father will not be at the ceremony.
He died on the eve of Rachel's final A-level exams, which she understandably missed, putting her place at university in jeopardy. But Rachel, who writes for this newspaper, is a determined young lady and she confronted the challenges facing her to fulfil her dream.
She wants to be a full-time journalist and has the obvious talent and tenacity to make it a career. She also wants to tell young people how to cope with the loss of a loved one. She is a shining example for her peers and a credit to her family.
