Editor's Viewpoint: Reluctant superstar Dolores O'Riordan whose music will continue to linger
Dolores O'Riordan, whose sudden death at the age of 46 has shocked her legion of fans, was a reluctant superstar. Her amazing voice may have been the catalyst which propelled The Cranberries to stardom, but initially she was so shy on stage she refused to face the audience. And in her 30s she left the spotlight for a time to spend more time with her children and be an ordinary mum.
As so often with great talent, she had her problems. She was abused as a child and in adulthood was diagnosed as bipolar and suffered ill health. She was a shooting star in many ways, burning out far too early, but like her most famous song, her music will continue to linger.
