Editor's Viewpoint: Rescuers should be proud as seal pups return to sea
The first days of a new year can seem bleak after the celebrations of Christmas, so good news is welcome.
Certainly there was good news at Knockinelder Bay in the Ards Peninsula when two seal pups were released after weeks of recuperating at the Exploris Aquarium.
Grey seals Bran and Thor were found in the autumn, dangerously underfed, but after gaining in weight and insulating blubber, they were deemed fit to be returned to the Irish Sea.
Not surprisingly, there were a few tears from those who brought them back to health.
It is inspiring to know there is still such goodness among the community at large.
