Editor's Viewpoint: Ronnie and Jean still in the swing of things 68 years on
The Open is the most historic golf championship of all the majors and its return to Northern Ireland after 68 years has been eagerly anticipated, not least by a couple who have a special reason for remembering the last time it was held at Portrush in 1951.
Ronnie and Jean Patterson met by chance in the town during the tournament and it was a case of love at first sight.
They soon got married and all these years later their love is still going strong. This is a heart-warming Open story in which the sport takes second place. It will take something special this week to outshine the couple who were the real winners the last time the tournament came here.
