Editor's Viewpoint: Sharing our history

On the day when civic leaders and ordinary citizens gathered to remember the fallen from many conflicts, news emerged that a Northern Ireland soldier had been killed in Afghanistan.

SDLP leader Margaret Ritchie became the first nationalist leader here to wear a poppy on Remembrance Sunday, but it was Belfast's Lord Mayor Pat Convery who made the most pertinent remark when he said that if we wish to share the future of this province, we should be willing to share its history, especially the sacrifices made by all sections of the community.
