Editor's Viewpoint: Sir Trevor's memories of NI reporting days fascinating
And finally... broadcaster Sir Trevor McDonald's memories from his time covering the Troubles read more like an extract from the work of distinguished cricket writer Neville Cardus than that of a war correspondent.
Sir Trevor recalls fondly engaging in one of his great passions - playing cricket on the rooftop of the former UTV building. It was here where he was able to see and hear the bombs going off.
He is astonishingly frank unlike some of his contemporaries in admitting that his main runs were made in avoiding danger, not courting it.
This is a skill that would serve him well in subsequent foreign assignments.
