Editor's Viewpoint: Snorkelling for gold

You won't find it in any list of international sports, but for sheer good unclean fun there is nothing to beat bog snorkelling.

Just imagine slithering through a ditch half-filled with mud. Getting to the other end is some achievement, never mind being the fastest or the best.

Northern Ireland may have lost out on any Olympic games, and of course there is real disappointment that the small bore rifle shooting, synchronised swimming or dingy racing will not be held on these shores.

But who needs them when we have got a real sport like bog snorkelling? Make it an Olympic event and we would probably take gold.
