Editor's Viewpoint: Stormont stalemate allows cruel puppy farms to flourish
Puppy farms are horrendously exploiting defenceless animals, with profit being the motivation of those breeding puppies and kittens in order to sell them.
The Government is consulting on banning this sordid activity which condemns animals to living and being transported in filthy conditions.
But yet again Northern Ireland will lose out if the legislation is changed.
The absence of a functioning Executive and Assembly means the cruel trade would continue here because the laws on animal welfare, the licensing of pet shops and dog breeding is a devolved matter.
Is nothing immune from the political deadlock?
