Editor's Viewpoint: Tackle cycle risks
The often repeated exhortation for people to get on their bike is less heeded in Belfast than in many other cities.
One reason is the poor provision for cyclists in the form of cycle lanes and good road surfaces. There also needs to be a coherent policy on cycling in the city and proper public information on how cars, cyclists and pedestrians can co-exist safely.
Cycling may be good for your health and good for the environment, but many would-be bikers still feel their life would be in danger if they took to the city's streets on two wheels rather than four. And, sadly, there have been fatalities to prove that point.
