Editor's Viewpoint: Thanks a million to those with foresight to plant trees
The planting of four oak trees in an estate on the outskirts of Belfast is the start of an innovative scheme to give the city new lungs. The aim is to plant a staggering one million trees in the greater metropolitan area over the next 14 years which could make it one of the greenest cities in the UK.
The benefit would be more clean air, creation of more natural habitats and generally making the city a more attractive place to live. Given the toxic fumes so prevalent in so many urban areas, those behind this scheme deserve credit and support from Belfast City Council for their vision.
Future generations may well praise their names.
