Editor's Viewpoint: The last laugh
In his heyday he was arguably Northern Ireland's most famous politician, being unmercifully lampooned on the Eighties satirical show Spitting Image.
Now Ian Paisley's puppet from that series is up for auction and is expected to fetch up to £8. But just to show that even the currency of politics can be devalued, the price tag is half that which another puppet of the former firebrand DUP leader fetched 1 years ago. These days he is a much quieter personality - no longer leader of the DUP or even the Free Presbyterian Church - and is an establishment figure as a member of the House of Lords. Given his image 3 years ago, even the creators of Spitting Image would have thought that was taking satire too far.
