Editor's Viewpoint: The young one
The achievement of Rory McIlroy in becoming the top golfer in the world is mind-blowing. The young man is merely 22-years-old. His best years should be well ahead of him. He has no right to be this good this young, but he is, and we all should savour it.
A sporting phenomenon and he is ours.
We could not ask for a better ambassador for Northern Ireland. Allied to his sublime talent is a winning personality. That he also has a tennis superstar as his girlfriend does no harm to his image either. Yet, in spite of the acclaim, the fame and the millions in the bank, he remains well grounded and a credit to his parents. Other sports stars with much less ability could certainly learn from him how to conduct themselves.
