Editor's Viewpoint: We should all support our small family-run businesses
Clothing shops like E O'Hare Ltd in Warrenpoint are part of the fabric of the town with a history fondly remembered by many customers.
But retailing is no place for sentiment, as the closure of many other family-run businesses hit by high rates, competition from national outlets and the onwards march of internet sales testifies.
Yet the loss of these businesses is a matter of regret. They bring a unique identity to their localities and often provide a wider range of goods than the bigger stores.
They may not have the same economies of scale, but the shopping experience cannot be reduced entirely to cost. They deserve our support.
