Editor's Viewpoint: Weighty problem
Obesity is a national problem which weighs heavily with the Government.
As a result, the new Health Secretary Andrew Lansley is urging those involved in the food business to provide target dates by which they will set out the nutritional value of products to their customers.
The health secretary emphasises that unhealthy lifestyles are costing the NHS billions of pounds annually, and this money could be better spent in protecting and enhancing the lives of others.
A good diet is not only a matter of discipline, but also of common sense. People who eat the wrong foods, and in many cases to excess, will inevitably pay the penalty. The new guidelines will help them to adopt better lifestyles.
