Editor's Viewpoints: Weather a serious business for those protecting others
Many people, including schoolchildren, will have enjoyed the enforced day off thanks to the snow. But the prospect of more freezing temperatures and blizzards should alert us to the dangers posed by the weather. Driving is hazardous, potentially deadly, transport links are jeopardised and deliveries of foodstuffs and animal feed to badly affected areas pose a risk to health.
We should pay tribute to those who brave the elements to carry out their duties, especially those in the emergency services, but also those who work with the elderly and vulnerable. This is a time when it is imperative to keep an eye on elderly or ill neighbours.
