Enjoy our heritage

Editor's Viewpoint

All around us there are marvellous pieces of heritage which we are largely unaware of. There are ancient burial sites, the spot where the first soccer penalty kick was taken or the building where the world's first air conditioning was installed. The identity of these places of interest will be revealed this weekend at the European Heritage Open Days.

This is a great way to learn the history of the province. It is fun, educational and the sheer scale of the programme of events is staggering. Some 410 buildings – some of them usually closed to the public – will throw open their doors to welcome visitors back in time. Go along to something; it will make your weekend and let you see Northern Ireland through a different prism.
