Footballer's battle reminds us of life's true priorities
Asked for his hopes for the future, Irish League footballer Paul Heatley said he wanted his family to be happy and healthy. Of course, he also wants more glory on the pitch, but he realises that he is very fortunate to be even alive, never mind playing the game he loves and having a great family life.
He vividly remembers how he nearly died aged five and recalls the anguish of his parents as doctors sought an antidote to the extremely rare condition that seemed to be killing him.
Far too often in the pursuit of careers, money or glory, we forget how fragile life can be and that our health is what really matters. Paul's story should make us think again.
