Former Glens starlet now has the world at his feet
It is a story that could have come straight out of a comic book. The teenage boy who came from Ghana to east Belfast and is now set to fulfil a dream move to one of Europe's most famous football clubs. Afriyie Acquah was just 15 when he started playing for Glentoran's academy side, but he could soon join Juventus in a multi-million pound deal. He has been playing in Italy for a number of years, but is still fondly remembered at The Oval, where his skill then was evident.
And he still keeps in touch with the man who bought him his first set of shin pads.
It is an inspirational story, but with no happy ending for Glentoran, who won't benefit from his rise to fame.
