Mental health issues are a big problem in Northern Ireland which has been exacerbated by the lockdown imposed to curb the spread of coronavirus.

A group of ex-Ulster Rugby players are lending their considerable influence to tackling the problem by raising funds for charity Aware NI.

At the same time, by taking part in an online workout, they are reinforcing the message that exercise can have mental as well as physical benefits.

Like other sports idols involved in similar initiatives, their example will reach far more people than simple public health messages.

They deserve our full support.
