Fund-raising effort a fitting tribute to much-loved teacher
After parents, teachers probably have the most influence in young people's lives. Helen Hanley was one such teacher and after her sudden and tragic death from a brain tumour, her colleagues and pupils at Abbots Cross Primary School in Newtownabbey, along with a number of parents, raised an astonishing £6,000 from a sponsored run.
It was a fitting tribute to a much-loved and dedicated teacher and the money will be invaluable to the Macmillan Cancer unit at Antrim Area Hospital where she spent her final days. And it will be some consolation to her devastated husband and children to know just how greatly she was admired.
