Generosity of people still shines bright in dark times
Despite the gloomy headlines in this dark November, there are many heart-warming stories to inspire us. One is of a crowdfunding effort to pay the funeral expenses of one of Londonderry's best-known characters.
There was widespread sadness in the city when 'Wee' Jimmy Brolly, who was originally from Scotland, died in hospital aged 59 this week.
Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan suggested a crowdfunding campaign which became so successful the £2,000 target was reached within hours.
This is proof, if proof were needed, of the innate generosity of Northern Ireland people and something all the Treasury bean counters should note.
