Happy diner's £1,000 tip an overwhelming gesture

Editor's Viewpoint

Most contented diners merely pass on their compliments to the chef, but one satisfied customer in Portadown went a very big step further with a £1,000 tip for a £79 meal. Most of us will grudgingly add a 10% gratuity to the bill no matter how good the food or the service, so it is little wonder staff at The Indian Tree restaurant were overwhelmed at the customer's gesture.

Having read our story today, many spouses who nightly serve up the family meal may wonder if they are being seriously undervalued.

They may not expect a tip, but doubtless would appreciate a word of thanks and an offer to do the dishes.
