HMS Caroline shipshape in race for top museum award
Who could have guessed that the sole surviving ship from the Battle of Jutland in the First World War would today be in the running for a museum of the year award.
HMS Caroline, which is berthed in Belfast, has done more to educate people on the horrors and heroism of naval warfare than any history books. The £20m that helped restore the vessel was money well spent.
It now joins four other museums on a shortlist for the £100,000 prize, with the winner being announced in July.
It is a different battle for supremacy, but one that the vessel with the Belfast heritage would be a worthy winner of.
