How Jim really cut it when he met Laurel and Hardy
Barber Jim Hanna had a fringe role during Laurel and Hardy's sell-out concert tour in Belfast in 1952. But initially it was no laughing matter when the young man was summoned to cut the comedy legends' hair at their hotel. For he was terrified of making a wrong snip with his illustrious customers.
However, a two pound tip - a huge sum in those days - calmed his nerves as he waved them goodbye. Jim, now a sharp 85, recalls how renowned street fighter 'Buck Alec' Robinson, who was his boss's brother, took Laurel and Hardy to his home to show them his three pet lions. Those were manes Jim was glad he was never asked to trim.
