The roars around Northern Ireland when Hurricane Fly stormed to victory in the Champion Hurdle yesterday could probably be heard at Cheltenham. With owners from Belfast and Crossgar, there was huge local interest - and a substantial amount wagered - on the horse to triumph. This part of the world has a great affinity with National Hunt racing and it is great to see a local connection to a win in one of the blue riband events of the sport. It follows the victory a few years ago of a locally owned horse in the Grand National. And it is a safe wager that other big race wins will also have their roots in Northern Ireland.
