Indefatigable missionary Maud is an example to us all
Maud Kells, the Cookstown missionary shot and wounded in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is a remarkable woman.
She has spent 46 years in that country nursing and helping to train midwives and building a hospital, school and bridge. She was awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours list for her work, but the prayers said for her in the Congo and in Northern Ireland after her ordeal will mean even more to her.
She is a deeply spiritual as well as practical woman, and with all the support rallying around her, it will take more than a couple of cowardly bandits to make her even think of halting her invaluable work.
