Irish side deserve their place in history after stunning win

Editor's Viewpoint

It was a long time coming, but when it did come, Ireland's first ever victory against the All Blacks - by a scoreline of 40-29 - was sweet and well-deserved.

Ireland had previously not beaten New Zealand since their first encounter in 1905, though they almost did in a thrilling game in Dublin just a few years ago.

The beauty of sport is that it is so unpredictable. New Zealand are worthy world champions and they have reigned long and hard.

Sooner or later, however, even the greatest champions topple, and what better team to topple them than Ireland?

It was truly a great day for the Irish, and for the sport of rugby itself.
