It’s a day to remember for aspiring young sportsmen

Editor's Viewpoint

This time of year is always special for school sportsmen with the rugby, GAA and soccer finals taking place.

For many of the boys involved, appearing in a St Patrick’s Day final in any of the above sports is the culmination of a dream which may have begun on their very first day in secondary education.

The finals are a fine example of the Corinthian spirit of sport but that does not mean the search for victory is not keen. For some of those taking part, yesterday’s final will be the highlight of their sporting careers, but for others it will be a stepping stone to representing their club, county or country. But to all of them we say, well played.
