It's the end of an era as we say thank you for the music, Bert
Those of us of a certain age have seen music develop through vinyl, tape and CD to today's streaming services. Now the pop charts are compiled on the number of times songs are streamed or downloaded. Fewer and fewer people own a record collection, as music largely exists in the digital cloud.
Little wonder that businesses like Bert McCormick's music shop in Ballyclare are closing. They cannot compete in today's hi-tech world where more music is available through a mobile phone than can be stored in any bricks and mortar premises. But at least Bert knows he lived, and performed in showbands, through the heyday of popular music.
