It's the most wonderful time of the year, but not for us all
It is called the festive season, but for many people Christmas is a time for sad reflection, remembrance of loss and the sight of the empty chair at the table where once a loved one sat.
It is a time of conflicting emotions, as the accounts of three people who lost a family member point out in this newspaper today.
Christmas above all is a time for children, and while death in a family will impact them, they are generally resilient and their joy has to be taken into account, no matter what emotions bereaved adults may feel.
Those who spoke to this newspaper were courageous in opening up and telling how others have helped them come to terms with their loss.
