Lilian showed compassion in face of family tragedies
By any standards, Irish woman Lilian Wright led a remarkable life. She fell in love and married a Nigerian prince, Ben Amobi, when mixed race unions were frowned upon, later got caught up in the Biafran war and fled back to Northern Ireland with her family before returning to Nigeria and becoming a tribal queen.
Tragedy, however, followed, with her husband and son, Philip, both being shot dead and a granddaughter killed in a plane crash.
Yet Lilian continued to show care for her husband's people and even donated land for missionaries to build a church. She put her own sorrow to one side to help others. What a life.
