Linda on top of the world after sensational climb

Editor's Viewpoint

The achievement of Lurgan woman Linda Blakely in climbing both Everest and neighbouring mountain Lhotse in little over 24 hours was an incredible feat. Although she is an experienced climber there were times she felt that she would not succeed. Stepping over a corpse to reach the summit of Lhotse and seeing bodies of dead climbers on Everest showed how grave was the challenge she undertook.

Little wonder she did not tell her mother what she was really up to at that time, pretending she was merely trekking in the region. But being only the fourth woman to achieve the double summit, her family are rightly very proud of what this incredible woman did.
