Manager keeps young Matthew's incredible feet on the ground

By Staff Reporter

Young Matthew Shelvin will always remember his debut for Ballymena United football club on Saturday.

Just 90 seconds after coming on as a substitute, the 15-year-old found the net against Ballinamallard and became the youngest player to score in his club's history. It might be tempting for Matthew to become an instant soccer "celebrity", but his manager Glenn Ferguson has wisely decided to keep his young protege out of the spotlight for the time being. A youngster with his talent might one day have the soccer world at his feet, but he also needs to keep his feet on the ground, and in more ways than one.
