Media centre a fitting tribute to the doyen of sportswriters

Editor's Viewpoint

There could be no finer tribute to this newspaper's legendary former sports editor, Malcolm Brodie, than to name the new modern media centre at Windsor Park after him.

He was a man known throughout the sporting world, but whose abiding love was Northern Ireland football at local and international level. Windsor Park may now be the National Stadium, but to Malcolm it was The Shrine.

He covered every football event worth noting, including a record 14 World Cups, in peerless prose and with pride in his adopted homeland.

Those who will occupy the new media centre on other big soccer occasions will have mighty big boots to fill.
