Minister should follow fighter Una's remarkable lead
Another doughty warrior is the Belfast Telegraph's Woman of the Year, Una Crudden. She has terminal ovarian cancer, but that has not stopped her campaigning tirelessly to raise the profile of a disease which is often difficult to diagnose until it is too late for successful treatment.
But she was left deeply disappointed when her bid to get Health Minister Edwin Poots to launch an awareness campaign about ovarian cancer alone.
Around 119 women here die from the disease every year but the minister feels that does not justify taking Una's lead.
Whatever the minister's response, Una has done an incredible amount to highlight the dangers of the disease and point out the symptoms and will continue to make her voice heard.
She is a champion in the true sense of the word.
