Minister Simon Hamilton impresses by re-opening libel law debate
The newly-appointed Finance Minister, Simon Hamilton, has taken the welcome initiative to re-open the debate on libel law here. He is commissioning an official report on the new Westminster legislation on libel, and whether or not it should be extended to Northern Ireland.
This is an important subject, and the UUP leader Mike Nesbitt and the Sinn Fein MLA Daithi McKay deserve credit for keeping up the pressure on this issue.
Simon Hamilton has also talked about new thinking regarding the public sector, and this approach, as well as his business-like attitude in general, is impressive thus far.
