Money for city centre spruce-up is not before time
It is a decaying eyesore in the heart of our capital city. What must casual visitors make of Lower Garfield Street, where the only greenery is growing out of the rooftops and the last tenant has moved out as redevelopment plans for the area remain on the drawing board? Some £600,000 is earmarked for sprucing up the street and other areas.
While it can be viewed as literally painting over the cracks, nevertheless the scheme will produce attractive vistas. Environment Minister Mark H Durkan can really make his mark by insisting that the work begins, if not tomorrow, then very soon. Otherwise there may be nothing left to paint.
