NI football star’s chilling warning about addiction

Editor's Viewpoint

The former Manchester City and Northern Ireland footballer Jeff Whitley is to be commended for speaking publicly about the addictions that ruined his career.

He was a talented player, but he fell foul of alcohol and cocaine. At one stage he wasted 30,000 pounds on drink and drugs in just two months.

Fortunately with the help of his family and professional advisers he got his life back.

It takes courage to do so, and to consider using the experience of bad times to assist others in need.

Now he helps young players who can benefit from his advice. Someone like Jeff is particularly well-qualified to do so, and we wish him well.
