Nothing amateurish about this radio ham's rescue act
In today's ever-changing world of communications, amateur radio seems terribly old-fashioned. But there is one man in Wales who will be ever thankful that enthusiasts still abound. A radio ham found an injured motorist in Wales and sent an emergency call to Esther Harper, who was 300 miles away in Fermanagh at the time.
She was able to alert the emergency services and the injured man was airlifted to safety.
It may not have been a spiritual moment, but certainly the injured man is grateful that someone up there in the airwaves was listening when the Mayday call was broadcast and enabled help to get to him in his remote location.
