Top-class athletes by definition lead a very insular and insulated life, concentrating on honing their skills to the utmost. So it is little wonder that Coleraine's Olympic rowers, brothers Richard and Peter Chambers, have been shocked by the lives that families in the developing world have to endure. They are in Uganda to promote a campaign by charity, Tearfund, to bring clean drinking water to thousands of villagers.
And, even as super-fit athletes, they have been astonished by the strength and endurance of two little sisters who trek over a mountain every day to bring water back to their home. The brothers find the trek arduous, which shows the scale of the task facing the girls. Well done to Richard and Peter for actually experiencing how the villagers live and bringing this worthy cause to a wide audience.
