Open gives NI a sporting chance to be in spotlight
Scarcely had Italian golfer Francesco Molinari grasped the Claret Jug at Carnoustie on Sunday, than the thoughts of many switched to the 148th Open Championship to be staged at Royal Portrush next July.
Of course preparations have been under way for some time for this historic event, which will bring the top players in the world to the north coast - and an estimated 190,000 spectators to watch them. Aside from the sporting glamour, the Open will generate an immense boost to the local economy and with a world-wide television audience of hundreds of millions, present a golden opportunity to sell Northern Ireland around the globe.
