Parents needn't be slaves to costly kids' birthday parties
Every parent likes to treat their children to a birthday party, but with the average price of a bash for the little princess or prince coming in at around £500, one would need to be a real-life royal to foot the bill comfortably.
And to crown it all, that eye-watering figure does not include the presents.
Venue hire, entertainment and catering are the main costs, but these can be cut back without dampening the mood.
Hold the celebrations at home, get family to rustle up the food and let the children make their own entertainment; remember when kids used to play? Cutting the bill without spoiling the party could be the icing on the cake.
