Parties must unite to tackle our childhood obesity crisis
News that a quarter of Northern Ireland children are obese, including some two year olds, should be the signal for all Assembly parties to work out an agreed action plan free from party politics.
Just as a suggested sugar tax is only a partial solution, so no single party can claim to have all the answers to a serious problem.
Obesity in childhood can lead to grave health problems in later life, so we need a joined up approach to educate children and parents into developing healthy diets and a more active lifestyle. The consequences of inaction could eventually break the health service budget.
