Poignant farewell reminder of why dog man's best friend

Editor's Viewpoint

It is not for nothing that dogs are called man's best friend. For the mutual respect is so often true. The loss of a canine friend after many years together can be very painful for the owner and their memories of lost pets can endure for many years.

Dave Wright from Carrickfergus had one such friend, George his faithful companion of 15 years, and when the dog's last days were approaching he took it for one last walk - carrying it - on Belfast's Cavehill, where they had spent so many happier times.

It was a touching farewell to a beloved pet and one with which so many dog owners can empathise. Dogs infiltrate their way into our lives and hearts in an unique way.
