Poisoning beautiful birds of prey is a despicable act
The level of cruelty that some people will direct at defenceless animals is sickening. Using a tethered pigeon coated in poison to kill a peregrine falcon, one of the most beautiful birds of prey, is, as one animal lover described it, a heinous crime.
For not only is the adult bird missing presumed dead but its offspring was killed when it was fed some of the poisoned pigeon by its parent.
The falcons were brought to the point of extinction in earlier years by pesticides, but have been making a comeback in Northern Ireland.
Anyone with information about this latest despicable act of cruelty should inform the appropriate authorities.
