Portrush given timely boost ahead of the historic Open
For venues which host one of the Majors in golf, the exposure is not just about the sport but the opportunity to sell the area as a destination. And credit to the Department for Communities at Stormont for giving Portrush a £17m facelift including a new train station and much enhanced public realm.
It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the resort to put on its best appearance for the 215,000 spectators but, more importantly, the 600m television viewers tuning into The Open championship. The investment has the potential to leave a lasting economic in the town. All we need now is for Rory or Graeme to lift the old Claret Jug.
